Are you a humble Hufflepuff or a sneaky Slytherin? The first Harry Potter movie may have been released nearly 20 years ago, but the eight films in the series are timeless and magical classics that still capture the hearts of millions of children and adults worldwide.
The movies focus on the young orphan wizard Harry Potter as he battles the evil wizard Voldemort while making friends, studying at the magical school Hogwarts and learning about love along the way. The movies — and the books they’re based on — span his teen years.
The only problem is finding the series to watch it. You could grab the movies on Blu-ray or DVD, but you might not have the right player. Besides, it’s 2019, not 2001. If you want to know how to watch Harry Potter, there are better ways to do it, so let’s go over the best ways together.
How to Watch Harry Potter Online
If you’ve used Netflix, you know how frustrating it is to hear about a great new movie or TV series release on the platform, only to discover it’s not available in your country. That isn’t a problem if you’re using a VPN and you know how to beat the Netflix VPN ban.
If you’re looking to find Harry Potter on U.S. Netflix, you’ll be disappointed. The movies are only on the Australian, French, Belgian, Greek, Romanian, Spanish and Swiss versions of Netflix at present. For a VPN that’ll let you access Netflix in those regions, we recommend ExpressVPN (read our ExpressVPN review).
Harry Potter isn’t available on Amazon Prime Video, either. HBO held the rights in the U.S. until recently, but they were snapped up by SyFy They were also on Hulu in 2018, but they’re no longer available.
Renting Harry Potter isn’t a problem because the movies are available to rent or buy from YouTube, iTunes and Google Play Movies.
If you don’t have a U.S. cable subscription and don’t want to rent or buy the movies, the easiest and best way to stream Harry Potter is to use Netflix and a VPN from our best VPN for Netflix selection.
How to Watch Harry Potter for Free
Of course, not everyone has a Netflix account. Harry Potter is a popular series, so it’s almost guaranteed to be on the less reputable streaming websites out there.
It’s up to you to decide whether piracy is your thing. We’re not advocating it or recommending it, just giving you the facts. If you decide to use free streaming websites, update your antivirus protection. If you don’t have an antivirus, install one from our list of the best antivirus software before you proceed.
It’s also a good idea to use a VPN to protect yourself. Some, such as Surfshark (read our Surfshark review), come with malware blocking, which should provide you with extra protection.
Movies123, Putlocker, Yesmovies and Vumoo have the Harry Potter series available to stream, but free streaming websites like them play a constant game of hide and seek with authorities so they can stay online. Their domain names will change, but the services will mostly stay the same.
Watch Harry Potter on Kodi
If you don’t fancy risking your PC with pop-ups and malware, consider streaming Harry Potter using Kodi and streaming add-ons.
If you haven’t used Kodi before, take a look at our Kodi guide to get started. It’s a media player that you can install on everything from your PC to your Android device. You can even install it on your Xbox One.
Streaming add-ons on Kodi have a “flavor of the month” feel. Some are supported for a few months before they’re dropped and others take their place. Many are forks of one of the original streaming add-ons, Exodus. A good place to keep an eye on for new streaming add-ons is our list of the best Kodi add-ons.
Add-ons such as Exodus Redux and Placenta now form part of the “old crowd,” while newcomers like Seren, 13 Clowns and Yoda look to take their place. Install one or two of those and see how many Harry Potter streams you can find.
You might have to search for the repositories you need to get some of those add-ons because they can change quite quickly. Check out our list of the best Kodi repositories to help you get started.
Harry Potter Torrents: Good or Bad Idea?
We’re not the moral police here at Cloudwards, so we can’t avoid mentioning torrenting when we talk about Harry Potter. For instance, you may be wondering is torrenting illegal and are you free to use torrents to download these movies.
Technically, when it comes to Harry Potter, torrenting isn’t on the legal side. Hollywood movie producers take copyright infringement seriously, so to stay safe, you should use a VPN or pick a cloud torrent service to keep your identity hidden.
A major series like Harry Potter will appear on most torrent websites, but lurking among the many “seeders,” or sharers, may well be a Hollywood honeytrap looking to ensnare your IP address. Still, with a privacy-focused VPN, such as Private Internet Access (see our PIA review), that isn’t too much of a risk.
A quick look at The Pirate Bay proxy found all the films were available and had plenty of seeders. That said, if you’re looking to torrent, do so at your own risk.
The Harry Potter series is one of the most successful series of movies and books ever made, and with the Fantastic Beasts prequel series hitting theaters over the next few years, the franchise is going to reach even greater heights.
We don’t recommend torrenting Harry Potter without a VPN, so check out our best VPNs for torrenting to keep your identity safe. Using Kodi is another option, so review our how to use Kodi guide to get your media center ready.

Outside of renting or buying the movies, the best option for watching Harry Potter at home is to combine Netflix with a VPN service, such as ExpressVPN or NordVPN, to stream from one of the locations we mentioned, such as Australia or France.
