Where to Watch Bourne Movies: How Many Bourne Movies Are There?
There are five Jason Bourne movies in the franchise, but the first Bourne movie adaptation was The Bourne Identity (1988). The modern franchise kicked off with The Bourne Identity in 2002 and the most recent is Jason Bourne (2016). In 2018, the TV series Treadstone was commissioned. It was released in 2019 and canceled after just one season.
The Bourne Identity (1988)
The Bourne Identity (1988) starred Richard Chamberlain as Jason Bourne. If you’re curious about the classic, you can watch it on YouTube for free. The only issue with YouTube is that you may not be able to watch the movie in the quality you’d like.
If a lower quality just won’t work for you, you’d be better off buying the DVD. You don’t need to watch this movie to follow the storyline of the later Bourne films.
The Bourne Identity (2002)
In The Bourne Identity (2002), Franka Potente and Julia Stiles star alongside Matt Damon, whose character is picked up in the Mediterranean Sea suffering from amnesia. You can watch The Bourne Identity (2002) on HBO Max, Hulu, Peacock Premium and YouTube TV. You can also find it in the French and Japanese Netflix libraries.
If you’re willing to pay, you can buy or rent The Bourne Identity on Amazon Prime Video, Vudu, iTunes or from the Google Play Store.
The Bourne Supremacy (2004)
The second installation in the Bourne trilogy (which comprises the first three movies) is The Bourne Supremacy (2004). Like its predecessor, it is spread across various streaming services including HBO Max, Hulu, YouTube TV, Peacock Premium and Netflix France and Japan.
You can also purchase or rent it on Amazon Prime Video, Vudu, iTunes and the Google Play Store.
The Bourne Ultimatum (2007)
The Bourne Ultimatum (2007), directed by Paul Greengrass, isn’t available on HBO Max and Hulu like the first two, but you can get it on Peacock as well as Netflix U.S., France and Japan. Like the first two movies, you can buy or rent it on Amazon Prime Video, Vudu and from the Google Play Store.
The Bourne Legacy (2012)
The Bourne Legacy (2012) introduces new cast members — Jeremy Renner, Edward Norton and Rachel Weisz. It’s available on French and Japanese Netflix. Otherwise, you have to buy or rent it on Amazon Prime Video, Vudu, iTunes or Google Play.
Jason Bourne (2016)
Jason Bourne (2016) is the final Jason Bourne movie to date. Like the other installments, you can find it on French and Japanese Netflix or you can rent it on Amazon Prime Video, Vudu, iTunes or Google Play.
Treadstone (2019), starring Jeremy Irvine, is available on Peacock for free. It’s also available on Hulu, and to rent or buy on Apple TV, YouTube, Amazon Prime Video, Google Play and Vudu.

Do I Need to Watch Bourne Movies in Order?
The Bourne movies were released in the correct watching order. The Bourne Legacy doesn’t star Matt Damon, but Jeremy Renner in the lead role, so it does break with tradition somewhat. You can probably skip this one as it doesn’t really focus on Jason Bourne.
Will There Be Another Bourne Movie?
In 2016, producer Frank Marshall said that he and his team were planning the sixth Bourne movie, but it hasn’t happened yet. In a 2021 interview, Matt Damon said that he wouldn’t rule out doing a sixth movie.
Though the Bourne movies are a bit scattered across different streaming services and in different Netflix libraries, it’s a pretty easy franchise to stream. It’s even easier if you use a VPN to change your Netflix location, which gives you access to all five Bourne movies. It also allows you to watch other movies that may not be available on Netflix U.S., such as The Office.
