ExpressVPN Expands Features to Compete as Privacy Suite
ExpressVPN is evolving into a broader privacy suite, expanding its subscription tiers to include more advanced tools.

Entering the privacy suite fray, ExpressVPN new subscription tiers will include the VPN, as well as different levels of features from the password manager, identity protection services, and a new private email relay service. ExpressVPN also planned to launch its private AI chat bot on Feb. 4, but it was delayed with the tool now “coming soon.”
This pivot toward a more full privacy suite follows several big decisions from the company over the past year, including launching a free, ad-based VPN option called EventVPN, as well as introducing tiered pricing for the first time in 16 years of service.
The company’s decision to expand its privacy features mirrors industry trends of services becoming privacy or security suites, rather than stand-alone tools. Other services that have done the same include:
- NordVPN also offers tiers including privacy tools, including a password manager, identity protection, cloud storage and more.
- Surfshark also has tiers including email aliases and protection, identity theft protection, data removal services and more.
- Proton tiers include options for both privacy and productivity tools, including its VPN, encrypted email services, calendar, password manager, authenticator, cloud storage, documents, spreadsheets, video conferencing, and its Lumo AI chat tool.
Overall, ExpressVPN adding these additional features to its tiers gives the VPN a more competitive edge, especially considering its pricing is generally higher than the competition, which often also offers more advanced privacy features.
Here is an overview of ExpressVPN’s new products:
- ExpressKeys (formerly ExpressVPN Keys): Password manager with unlimited storage within an encrypted vault, with functionality including autofill, biometric unlock, two-factor authentication, and weak-password flagging. ExpressKeys has mobile apps for iOS and Android, plus browser extensions for Chrome, Safari and Edge. This tool is available for any ExpressVPN user on Advanced and Pro tiers.
- Identity Defender (for new U.S. users only): The new version of this tool will launch on Feb. 26, 2026, and include identity theft alerts and protection, dark web monitoring, data removal services and credit scans. Note that varying Identity Defender features are included in the Advanced and Pro tiers, but for only new subscribers.
- ExpressMailGuard: This is a private email relay service; private email aliases hide your real email address, helping users avoid spam and phishing, stop email tracking, and reduce harm in data breaches. This tool is available for any ExpressVPN user.
- ExpressAI (coming soon): The company’s AI chat tool with privacy; no data-harvesting or training. This tool is not yet included in any ExpressVPN tiers.
Although the password manager and a simpler version of the identity management tool were already available to ExpressVPN users, both have expanded functionality and also different features depending on your plan.
It’s worth noting that one of the hallmarks of ExpressVPN is that the service is simple, easy to use and works very, very well. Hopefully expanding its attention to these additional features doesn’t reduce the quality of the services — keep an eye on our ExpressVPN review for updates as we evaluate the new features.
