Grimm is one of the weirder, yet addictive shows out there today. It follows the adventures of Nick Burkhardt, a homicide detective in Portland, Oregon, who one day finds out that he’s the heir to a legacy of monster hunters. It’s a must-see for anybody into magical realism, so we’ve put together this guide on how to watch Grimm online.
The world of Grimm is one where beasts, called Wesen in the show’s pig German, walk among us in human guise, their true forms only becoming visible when they want to be seen. There’s a select group of regular humans who can see them under normal conditions, though — the Grimms. The talent is passed from generation to generation, and Nick is the last in a long line.
For centuries, the Grimms have acted as judge, jury and executioner of the Wesen, and a big part of the show is about Nick balancing his work as a cop with that of his calling as a Grimm. He generally takes a milder route than his forebears, which leads him, and the viewer, to discover the rich Wesen world in all its fantastic glory.
The show has its dark moments — Wesen are beasts that can tear people limb from limb, after all — but overall plays off the quirkiness of its characters and the cool world the writers created. If you like shows that do off-the-wall stuff, Grimm is for you. There’s enough police procedural there, though, that if you want a break from The Shield or The Wire, it could be a good option.
That said, there’s one downside to Grimm, which it shares with many others. The quality tapers off, almost plummets, after season 4. Though there are still good episodes in season 5 and season 6, the finale was a letdown after the excellent writing and tense storylines of the first four seasons. It’s best to judge for yourself, though, so let’s get started.
How to Watch Grimm Online
Grimm is available for paid streaming on Amazon Prime Video and Netflix. Amazon Prime Video offers it in the U.S. and Europe, while Netflix only has it in Europe. If you’re not in one of those regions, or don’t want to get a second subscription, we’ll show you how to get past those geoblocks below.
On Amazon Prime Video, it’s available in its entirety, so you can binge away. Because Amazon has a nasty tendency to suck up your data, though, we recommend using a virtual private network to protect yourself. We have an article on the best VPN for Amazon Prime Video for you to check out. As a bonus, you can use it to bypass the few geoblocks Amazon puts up.
How to Watch Grimm on Netflix With a VPN
Grimm is available on U.S. Netflix, but if you’re located anywhere else you’ll need to use a VPN to be able to watch it. The first thing you’ll need to do is download and install a VPN capable of accessing Netflix. We’ll be using ExpressVPN for this example, but other VPNs that can unblock Netflix will also work and follow similar steps.
- Sign Up for a VPN Account
Go to expressvpn.com and click the button that says “get ExpressVPN.” This will bring you to the registration form where you can choose the subscription plan you want and enter your details.
- Download and Install the VPN
Once you’ve created your account, login on expressvpn.com and download the client for your operating system. Run the installer once the download finishes and follow the instructions to complete the installation.
- Connect to a U.S. Server
Open the server list in your ExpressVPN client, select a server based in the U.S., and click “connect.”
- Watch Grimm on Netflix
Once you’re connected to a U.S. server through your VPN, all you need to do is simply launch Netflix, search for Grimm and start watching.
How to Watch Grimm Online for Free
As you probably know, there are also plenty of unpaid streaming websites, and several of them offer Grimm. That said, using them carries a big risk because they all come loaded with pop-up ads laden with malware, so we recommend using one of our best pop-up blockers in conjunction with any of the best antivirus solutions before visiting them.
As with most shows, Outlander being a good example, the best option out of the sea of free streaming websites is PutLocker. It has all six seasons of Grimm and a quick flip through a bunch of them shows no corrupt episodes or files. Aside from the ads, if you choose to go for PutLocker, you’re good to go. We also checked out Couchtuner, but most of the links there were broken.
How to Watch Grimm on Kodi
If you’re not averse to minor tinkering, you have one more streaming option, namely Kodi. This open-source media library can take some work to get started, but then you’ll have access to almost every movie, TV show and sports channel out there (check out our best Kodi add-ons for sports if you’re into watching people get sweaty).
We did some digging and found that Poseidon has all six seasons of Grimm. You can find it under Kodil, which is one of the best Kodi repositories and should be to install. If you do run into trouble, though, we have a full Kodi guide that’ll help. We also recommend you use one of our best VPN for Kodi as using it isn’t exactly legal.
Last but not least, you can watch Grimm the old-fashioned way by torrenting the files and watching it from your hard drive. A quick look around our favorite The Pirate Bay mirror shows that you should be able to pull all the seasons together, but you may have to check out which torrents are legit and which aren’t.
It’s not the best showing we’ve seen, but it should get you watching Nick’s adventures in good time. For practical purposes, torrenting is illegal, though, so use one of our best VPN for torrenting picks or get one of those nasty notices in your mailbox.
Seriously, though: never torrent without a VPN enabled.
That wraps up all the ways we could think of, legal and illegal, for you to watch Grimm. We recommend checking out the show if you’re into the idea that there’s a world that exists simultaneously with ours or if you simply like the idea of monsters running amok through the streets of Portland.
