For sports nuts, being able to watch the latest events is a must. Maybe you’re a soccer fan and want to watch Cristiano Ronaldo score for Juventus, or Lionel Messi tear through the last line of defense to put the ball in the back of the net. Perhaps soccer isn’t your first choice, and you want to see the Yankees take on the Mets.
Whatever sports event you want to tune into, there is a good chance that fuboTV will be broadcasting it. In this guide, we’re going to tell you how to watch sports with fuboTV.
Launched in January 2015 as “fubo,” it started life as a soccer-streaming service and, since then, the company has grown. In 2017, it rebranded as fuboTV and extended its range of live sports events to include the MLS, MLB, NFL and NBA, to name but a few. Although fuboTV is a sports-oriented service, it also streams movies, news and network television series, too.
The service is available in the U.S., Canada and Spain, and in late 2018, fuboTV announced its business was growing, with its subscriber count about to hit 250,000.
FuboTV invested heavily in its own tech, which seemed to be a risky move at the time, but it paid off when it came to streaming big events.
For example, in 2018, while Hulu and PlayStation Vue had problems — such as brief outages — when streaming the Super Bowl, fuboTV’s audience got through the entire game without a single glitch. That alone has to make it a top choice for sports fans.
Watch Sports with FuboTV
FuboTV has more than 100 channels, with more than 30 of them being sports channels. All of them are available with the standard package, too, and include channels such as Fox Sports 1 and 2, beIN Sports and the NFL Network. With all of those channels, you should be able to find the game you’re after.
A special feature of fuboTV is its Cloud DVR. With it, you can record and watch anywhere, anytime. The number of hours you get will depend on the package you choose. For instance, on the Standard plan, you will be allocated 30 hours of recordable space. If you decide to upgrade, all other packages have 500 hours of recordable space.
Compatible Devices for FuboTV
There are plenty of devices that you can install and watch fuboTV on. If Apple is your first choice, you can download the app on the iPhone, iPad and the Apple TV. There’s also an app for Android users, which you can download on your phone or tablet.
Let’s face it, though: bigger is better, and nothing compares to the big screen, especially when it comes to watching sports. Let’s say you’ve got the boys ‘round to watch the game. Well, you don’t all want to huddle around a tiny screen. Thankfully, you can use Google Chromecast, Amazon Fire TV Stick or Roku to stream it straight to your TV.
If for any reason you do not wish to use the app, you can stream fuboTV straight from the browser. For the best user experience, fuboTV recommends using Google Chrome.
When compared to its competitors, fuboTV is more expensive. That said, it offers more sports content than any other online streaming service. Plus, it has Cloud DVR storage included in its price.
FuboTV has four packages to choose from. The Standard package is $54.99 per month and includes 115 channels, 30 hours of Cloud DVR and the ability to watch it on two screens at the same time.
Next is the Family package, which again offers 115 channels, though the channels vary from the first package. Plus, you get 500 hours of Cloud DVR, and you can watch it simultaneously on three screens. This package comes in at $59.99 per month.
Thirdly, there’s the Family Deluxe package. It costs $64.99 per month and comes with 151 channels, 500 hours of Cloud DVR and, again, the ability to watch three screens at the same time. As a bonus, you get fubo Extra, which includes 35 entertainment channels.
Lastly, there’s the Ultra package, which costs $79.99 per month, although they currently offer a deal of $74.99 per month for the first three months. With this package, you get 184 channels, 500 hours of Cloud DVR, and three simultaneous screens.
You also get fubo Extra’s 35 entertainment channel and Showtime, which includes nine on-demand channels. Plus, you get Sports Plus with 24 high-energy channels.
All the TV packages — from the Standard right through to the Ultra — show more than 130 events in 4K. If you’re still not convinced, fuboTV offers a free seven-day trial, so you can access its content and try it before you buy it.
Although fuboTV does have services available in Canada and Spain, most programming is only available in the United States. If you are outside of the U.S., you’ll be hit with geoblocks, but you can still watch fuboTV by using a virtual private network.
A VPN will help you get a U.S. IP address so that, to fuboTV (and other streaming services), you look like you’re physically in the country.
There are many other benefits to using a VPN, too, and for a great all-round service, we recommend ExpressVPN. It’ll easily get you connected to a server in the States, and it’s our best VPN for streaming due to its fast speeds and unlimited bandwidth. Read our ExpressVPN review for more details, or give it a go with its 30-day money-back guarantee.
With so many streaming sites to choose from, it can be hard to find the one that suits you best. If you’re in the States and you’re looking for a cord-cutting service with a sports edge, then fuboTV has got to be a contender.
There are some downsides to fuboTV, though. For one, it’s more expensive than its rivals, and while it says it offers 4K content, it’s mostly limited to the sports events. Other streams are in lower quality, such as 720p.
Plus, fuboTV does not have the rights to show any ESPN sports content. Although that may not be a problem for some, if you like to watch Monday Night Football, you’ll have to use an alternative method to watch it.
